Tonight in Ottawa, Stratford Shakespeare Festival artistic director Des McAnuff will receive the National Arts Centre Award of the
Governor General's Performing Arts Awards. He is being honoured alongside rock band Rush, classical pianist Janina Fialkowska, Quebec theatre creator Denis Marleau, filmmaker Deepa Mehta, comedian Mary Walsh, arts supporter Earlaine Collins and dancer-choreographer Paul André Fortier. For 20 years, the awards have been among the highest forms of national recognition for performing artists in Canada.
